New Portage Lake District Library Director

The Portage Lake District Library has hired a new library director. Katrina Linde-Moriarty will start work at the library on May 2.

Katrina Linde-Moriarty comes to Houghton from a job as director of Monticello Public Library, a small public library near Madison, Wisconsin.

“A good library has books, programs, and other resources,” Katrina says. “A remarkable library is built around people and the connections that bring them together. I intend to help make Portage Lake District Library a truly remarkable library,”

They are an American Library Association-accredited library director with six years of professional library experience and another five years of volunteer work in libraries, a bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and History from the University of Oregon and a Master’s in Library and Information Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

“My passion for libraries is my life-long dream come true,” says Katrina. “I am excited to have this opportunity to inspire our communities to follow their imaginations and make the library a place where stories begin.”

They are familiar with the UP and loves the outdoors. They solo-backpacked throughout the UP this past summer. They studied abroad in Scotland during their undergraduate degree and embrace multiculturalism.
