Residents or property owners within the City of Houghton and Portage Township may get a library card at no upfront cost, which includes access to all Portage Lake District Library materials, materials owned by Superiorland Library Cooperative libraries, items found in MeLCat, as well as free computer access and databases.
Active military members and their households are eligible for free library memberships.
Non-residents may purchase a card and receive full privileges at the Portage Lake District Library. Individual non-resident cards can be purchased for $110 per year. Family non-resident cards can be purchased for $155 per year. Additionally, non-residents may choose to purchase 3-month or 6-month memberships as well. To verify your residence you must bring a valid Michigan Driver’s License, State ID or other official identification card with your name and current address on it. Please view our Circulation Policy for additional information regarding library card registration.
