The Portage Lake District Library accept various types of donations.
Monetary Donations
Monetary donations are tax-deductible and can be general or dedicated to specific materials or programs. Generous past gifts have provided the library with funds needed for children’s materials, cultural programs for adults, and the purchase of thousands of books.
The library’s donor wall is still available for customized “book titles” that honor donors at three levels: $500, $1,000 and $2,000. The donor wall will remain in the library for the life of the building, allowing library patrons to recognize those who support the library.

What is an Endowment Fund?
An endowment fund is an investment portfolio with the initial capital derived from donations. Endowment funds are established to fund charitable and nonprofit institutions such as churches, hospitals, and universities. Donations to endowment funds are tax-deductible.

Books and Material Donations
The Library is now accepting donations as space allows.
The library appreciates the donation of books and materials from patrons. Some items may be added to our collection, while most are sold in book sales. Here are a few guidelines to remember when donating books to the library:
- As a general rule, if you would not buy it at a sale, we cannot accept it.
- We cannot accept textbooks.
- We don’t accept most books older than 3 years.
- We cannot accept audio/visual materials.
- We cannot accept books that smell musty, smoky, etc.
