PLDL and the Hancock Library are open for limited, in-person services with regular hours.

At Home Ancestry Access Extended

Posted on

Remote access to the library’s subscription to Ancestry has been extended through June 31, 2021. This means library card holders can access Ancestry Library Edition from anywhere with an internet connection.

For many years, PLDL has subscribed to Ancestry Library Edition, which allows out patrons to access the genealogical database from inside the library. This resource is used by many to look up census records from 1790-1940, draft cards, ship passenger lists, and much more.

This database was only available for in-library use, but due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, Ancestry is offering remote access to Portage Lake District Library cardholders for a limited time, from now through June 31. Follow the steps below to access Ancestry Library Edition from home.

1. Visit our online library catalog by using the Library Catalog link.

2. When you visit our catalog, check the upper-right portion of the screen. If logged in, you will see your name. If not, click Log In.

3. After logging in, the Ancestry link will be revealed. Click the Ancestry Link at the bottom of the left-hand box to access Ancestry Library Edition.

That’s all there is to it! Happy Searching!
