Summer Reading Program

This year, the program kicks off on Saturday, June 26, with preregistration available online on Thursday, June 17. The 2021 Summer Reading Program is made possible by generous support from the Portage Health Foundation. Thank you, PHF!

The Portage Lake District Library and the Hancock School Public Library are thrilled to launch the 2021 summer reading program, Tails and Tales. The program will see both libraries engage students and residents in summer reading activities all summer long.

Each year, libraries across the country host a summer reading program to keep children and families reading all summer long and to help prevent what educators call the summer slide. The summer slide is described as the tendency for students to lose reading achievement gains made the year prior if they are not reading over the summer.
