Portage Lake District Library and Michigan Tech’s Van Pelt and Opie Library invite community members to participate in The Great Michigan Read, a community reading project spanning the Upper Peninsula sponsored by Michigan Humanities.

Join us for some fantastic programs in celebration of local history and this year’s GMR, “The Women of the Copper Country”, by Mary Doria Russell. We will be joined by several Archivists from the Michigan Tech’s Van Pelt and Opie Library.

Wednesday, October 20, 6 – 7:00pm
Join us for the kickoff event in a series of Great Michigan Read programs! This evening we will be joined by Lindsay Hiltunen, University Archivist, Van Pelt and Opie Library. Lindsay will be giving a short presentation on local history (Mid-1800s to the Mine Boom Days). We will also have free copies of “Women of the Copper Country” for attendees interested in joining in our group book discussion in early December.
